The Locative Media Toolkit is designed for four things: (1) loading and managing GPS data (2) acquiring and georefencing maps via waypoints (3) plotting media on a map (4) publishing Many of these ideas have been nicked blatantly from Trevor Smith's 93 Photo Street, and from conversations with Rich Gibson. Christian Nold contributed to these notes via IRC. * downloadable maps: Terraserver, TIGER Mapserver, Landsat * customizable icon sets * targets multiple output formats: DHTML, SVG, RSS 1.0, WorldKit, Mapserver * another thing I forgot to put in was that often the media is time-offset from the GPS trace because the devices are on different time zones or whatever * well would a play button in the file browser be possible? as well as the record (fantasy) * with audio since its time based I assume we would use the date created so the starting point of any audio recording this might feel odd if you record for 20 minutes and walk a long way yes and animate the map in real time as the recording plays. animation seems complicated since it doesn relaly fit into our export options sure it does. just not all of them. but we could do animation in SVG or Flash. * a drop down for the xport might be simpler than the muliple directory views. Also a small image + description of the template would be nice. Also output dimensions. Q: lets say i have no sat data - is the GPS area empty? A: you would just skip that part. you'd load up a pre-georeferenced map (possibly from the web) and then go straight to the media tab and place the media by hand. Q: what happens if you have annoted a map and then go back to the georeferncing or the GPS section would it mess things up? A: well, when you place media it gets assigned to a location right ? so if the location of the map moved you might have to move some of the media by hand, yes. but they would be nearby their actual locations. yes and then you change the GPS track that was initially used to locate it there alternately you could automatically re-georeference the media there should be a button for that somewhere.
